It’s FWD and has the stock engine and gearbox. I have the weirdest boner right now.

So you can rally with much reliability.

Wait the Rav4 has a manual option? Or are they running the Auto/CVT?

I think they need to find a way to make the sequential from an R2 Fiesta fit.

It’s a RAV4 in the same way I'm Usain Bolt. Some similar components, but wildly different application

Actually it’s mostly stock. Suspension, tires, brakes, exhaust, and safetly gear has been added, pretty much everything else is factory. Factory CVT, stock engine making 175 hp, the infotainment system even still works. Toyota wanted to keep it as close to stock as possible as a demonstration of what the vehicle is capable of.

They don’t want to. Toyota wants to keep it as close to stock as possible, because marketing.

And what Rhys Millen is capable of.

I guess that makes sense. Still like nutter mode better though.

Ryan not Rhys, but otherwise accurate

To be fair, if made right, a CVT could be useful for racing. Williams F1 tested a CVT on their FW15C and then the FIA immediately brought down the banhammer.

True. But this is a bone stock, unfiddled with CVT identical in every way to the one in a Rav4 on the dealer lots

Good god. It must take some brilliant fiddling to make the transmission cooperate on a rally stage, much less not blow up

Just to give you an idea of how stock this car is mechanically:

I cant think of a demographic of people that would care less than Rav4 owners.

I’d be very surprised if the engine and transmission calibration was stock...

We’ll have to ask him about it at STPR. I know it still makes stock horsepower at the very least, because that's a point of pride for Toyota

Based on the cvt cars I’ve driven, they usually won’t hold “gears” or high rpm. The easiest thing would be to force it to hold the fake “gears” until he tells it to shift. The smart thing to do would be to force it to hold peak power at anything >50% throttle
